Was I surprised when during my last visit to London, I came across this little Jewel? Straight out of the Jetson’s era.

I was  born in Montevideo (Uruguay) and having commenced my apprenticeship in 1960,  was exposed to the manufacturing of this style of furniture on a daily basis.

As a young person then, to me  it was “Just a chair” …. now it is much more than that . More than a curiosity or a quirky  design.

It is a great memory of those times when skilful workmanship, and careful selection of raw materials met to create long-living pieces of exceptional quality.

It was exciting to bump into this beautiful chair, which no doubt will serve as a fantastic source of inspiration for my next project, when “a collectable will meet with contemporary living demands” .

Although the year has started in a dramatic and exasperating way in Queensland and our hearts and thoughts are with those affected by the terrible floods, 2011, according to the Chinese Calendar should otherwise be a placid year. We need it after the ferocious year of the Tiger, where lives and economies of the world lay battered and bruised.

This should be a time in which diplomacy, detente and positively targeted international relations will be at the fore-front again. Things should quieten down and a more relaxed approach to life considered. Our life style will be more leisurely as we allow ourselves the luxuries we have always craved for.

It sounds like it should be the year for enjoying our luxurious sofas and recliners.
